Home Chi Minh – Part 1

Ho Chi Minh feels like home to me, it was the first country I ever lived abroad in and I love going back for friends, food and to see how it is developing in light of it turning into an economic powerhouse.

Fruit Lady

Fruit lady has been a part of my life for 7 years and she is like my Vietnamese aunt. Every time I visit Ho Chi Minh, I go to District 5 (China Town) to find her and we always embrace with a big hug. She has been working on the street for many years and pushes a heavy cart across the district to sell people their fix of fruit. Prices are low 5,000-10,000 VND for a bag of delicious fruit. Life is not easy, with low prices and constantly battling with police crackdowns – it is incredible that she always has a smile on her face.
