We have finally reached all new levels of sophistication and embarked on an a journey of discovery by sampling afternoon teas across Hong Kong.
First stop, the Clipper Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental! The surroundings were lavish and the service was attentive. We were presented with a tier of sandwiches, 2 tiers of scones and a basket of scones. I opted for the package with champagne as us Brits like to partake in alcohol at any opportunity.
The sandwiches were delightful however I miss the UK approach of refilling your plate. I’m more of a savoury than sweet fan so more appreciative of sandwiches as I adore bread.
The scones were delicious with clotted cream and their signature rose petal jam. I was very pleased we got 2 each but I was starting to get full at this point.
Finally – the cakes! To be honest, I felt I like 8 cakes was a bit excessive. I hate wasting food but had to admit defeat and left a pile of half eaten cake debris on my plate. I particularly enjoyed the lemon cake (I wish I knew the name!)
Overall, it was a wonderful experience and lived up to expectation. We deliberated amongst ourselves and rated the experience as follows:
