The Souths finally landed in Vietnam. The parents adventure started in Hanoi, a city which is chaotic yet enchanting. The first thing you notice is the traffic – it’s insane! My parents were overwhelmed by the traffic, the smells and the surroundings. It was like they were the children and I was the parent. I held their arms to help them cross the road and would not let them out of my sight. I was pleasantly surprised at their reception to Vietnamese food and they even tried to use chopsticks.
We did numerous walks around the city for them to see the key sights. One of the most important was the visit to a Bia Hoi. They were gobsmacked at the height of the plastic stools, how close they were to the road and the price of the beer.
