I have been fortunate to experience a number of firsts this year. My first basketball match, my first teaching role, my first game of banagrams, the list is endless.
I watched Saigon Heat, the Vietnamese team in the ASEAN Basketball League, for the first time a few weeks ago and I am hooked. I only have a vague knowledge of the sport and I believe this aids my enjoyment – I have no idea how good / bad Saigon Heat are. It is very refreshing! I was also very fortunate to meet two of the players, Palmer and Longhorn, in one of my favourite cafes!
Teaching was another first and one of my biggest achievements. I was always very shy and reserved, the thought of standing in front of people would send me into a state of panic. My eyes would look down, my body would tremble and my voice would quiver with fear. How things have changed. The Celta was the start of my transformation. It gave me the confidence to believe in myself and as the weeks and months have passed, my confidence has blossomed. It was a life changing experience and I am thankful for it every day. I am also thankful for the wonderful students I have had over the past year, I truly hope they have learnt something from me!
Finally, bananagrams. I was introduced to this game 6 months ago and it has made my life complete. For those of you who are not aware of this legendary game, it is like Scrabble except you have your own ‘board’ and it is significantly faster. Not only that, it turned Xmas from being bearable to enjoyable! I strongly urge you to invest in this game!
